In an effort to protect a San Francisco trash company from paying the prevailing rate for the disposal of their trash in neighboring counties, AB 1178 (Ma) was introduced on behalf of one business to override the will of the people in Solano County to stop more out-of-county waste being dumped in their neighborhoods. One of the few measures opposed by Green California, AB 1178 was held in the Senate Environmental Quality Committee when the members recognized the bad precedent the bill would establish by the legislature running roughshod over a 20 year-old local referendum.
